Broken Crayons Still Colour
We live in a world where pressure can feel unending, where silence can feel safer than speaking, and where brokenness can feel like the end of our story. But here’s the truth: broken crayons still colour. Even in the cracks, there is beauty. Even in the struggle, there is purpose.
Do you remember your first box of crayons? Many of us tried so hard to keep them whole, shading lightly, careful not to press too hard. Yet, at some point, one would snap. And when it did, it often felt like it had lost its worth. But the truth is, even broken, the crayon still coloured, sometimes with deeper, richer shades than the ones untouched.
Life works the same way. Stress, disappointment, loss, or struggles with our mental health may leave us feeling cracked or less valuable. But your worth doesn’t disappear with the break. You still have colour. You still matter.
The theme for this year’s World Mental Health Day is a call to bridge the gap between awareness and access. And part of that is reminding ourselves that seeking help, speaking out, and leaning on support are not signs of weakness, they are signs of strength.
So as you journey through the rest of this year, here are a few ways to keep holding on, even in the midst of the cracks:
Talk about it: Silence can feel safe, but it often keeps us stuck. Break the silence. Sharing your feelings opens the door to healing. It can help lighten the load and remind you that you’re not alone in what you feel.
Practice self-compassion: You don’t have to have it all together all the time. Resting, saying no, and asking for help are not signs of weakness. They are reminders that you are human and deserving of care too.
Stay connected: Isolation makes struggles heavier but healthy connections remind us we’re not alone. Surround yourself with people who see you, support you, and remind you of who you are when life feels uncertain.
Seek help: Therapy, counseling, or support groups are lifelines, not last resorts. They can help guide you toward healing and help you find strength in understanding yourself better.
Hold on to hope: No matter how heavy things feel, remember that pain doesn’t last forever. Healing takes time, but it is happening, even in the quiet, unseen moments.
Your story isn’t over because something broke. Every scar, every setback, and every moment you thought you wouldn’t make it has shaped you into someone stronger, wiser, and more compassionate. Brokenness does not erase purpose. You are still needed. You still have something beautiful to give.
So, even when the pieces feel scattered, keep going. Keep colouring your world with kindness, courage, and hope. Because broken crayons still create masterpieces. 💜
Have a beautiful week ahead!
